Passes For Telluride Film Festival Are Completely Sold Out

This article is more than 8 years old.

The 43rd annual Telluride Film Festival may not be happening until September, but all the passes for the festival have already completely sold out.

Passes for the festival - which will run September 2 to 5 in the Colorado town - went on sale March 1, and now, only seven weeks later, are already sold out. Usually, passes for the festival do not sell out until much later in the spring.

What could be the cause for this year's especially rapid sell out? The passes went on sale "two days after best actress Oscar winner Brie Larson sang the Colorado event’s praises from the Dolby Theater stage at this year’s Academy Awards," wrote Kristopher Tapley of Variety. Though this year's Academy Awards had the lowest ratings since 2008, there were still 34.3 million viewers watching and Larson's compliments certainly could have boosted the festival's sales.

The festival has also featured six straight Best Picture winners with that list including (in chronological order from 2009-2015): The King's Speech, The Artist, Argo, 12 Years a Slave, Birdman and Spotlight.

The festival's lineup is always confidential until the day before Telluride begins, so, festival-goers still have several months before they'll find out.

But, considering the past few years have featured movies like Gravity and Black Mass - in addition to those earlier listed Best Picture winners - this year's lineup will surely feature some major players.
