BJP has no base in over 20,000 booths

P.P. Mukundan, former BJP organising secretary for south India, has returned to active politics after a 10-year hiatus.

What ails the BJP in the State unit? Is there a leadership crisis after K.G. Marar?

The party should promote leaders right from its lower-rungs. Mandalam presidents and district presidents are changed every three years and new people take over, which means there is no continuity in the leadership process.

Has the BJP seen a growth as expected in your absence? Why has it yet to have an MLA in Kerala?

The party has not been able to expand its base in over 20,000 booths in the State. To influence the electorate, the party needs to take up social issues.

RMP is opposing all three forces

K.K. Rema, wife of slain RMP leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, and the RMP’s Vadakara candidate.

What is RMP’s political agenda? Is it still stuck in a time-warp, failing to adopt a clear political line?

That is not right. The RMP is opposing all three forces in the fray, the LDF, the UDF, and the BJP-led NDA. Previously, we were erroneously dubbed to be playing second fiddle to the Congress-led UDF.

What impact has the party made after the death of Chandrasekharan?

We are still carrying forward Chandrasekharan’s legacy, opposing the neo-liberal policies. Our party may still be regional, but we are definitely a force as evident in the recently held three-tier local body polls.
