April 22, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - Kozhikode:

As part of the special checking drive ahead of the Assembly elections, the Excise Department has set up a separate Border Patrolling Unit to prevent the illegal inter-district transportation of Indian Made Foreign Liquor from Mahe.

Excise Commissioner Anil Xavier said here on Thursday that the squad was appointed in the wake of noticing an increase in IMFL smuggling attempts from Mahe to other parts of North Kerala.

He said strict action would be taken to prevent the trend during the special drive.
