Illicit relationshipis said to be the cause of the murder

Suspected illicit relationship led to the murder of a woman by her husband at Bellakogila of Shantipuram mandal bordering the Karnataka State on Wednesday afternoon. The incident came to light on Thursday.

Sivanandan (32) of Bellakogila village married Alamelu (30) of a bordering village in Karnataka ten years ago. The couple, doing agriculture, has two sons aged below 10. During the last three years, the woman allegedly developed intimacy with some youth in the neighbourhood and from her native place. Sivanandan used to warn the woman against her behaviour, but in vain. On Wednesday morning Sivanandan sent his two sons to his parents’ house at nearby village with a plan to counsel his wife. In the process, the couple had a quarrel at noon. When the man threatened her that he would kill her, the latter started provoking him to do it, otherwise she would kill him. The neighbours, watching the family drama, thought that the couple was at loggerheads as usual.

On Wednesday afternoon, the neighbours saw Sivanandan leaving the house, bolting the door from outside. Again, he returned on Thursday morning and left immediately, after spending a few minutes inside the house.

The neighbours grew suspicious and broke open the doors only to find Alamelu dead, with strangulation marks on neck.

Kuppam Circle-Inspector M. Rajasekhar visited the scene and enquired with the villagers about the happenings, who informed him that Sivananda had left for Kuppam to surrender to the police.
