SAD for corridor to Kartarpur Sahib

SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra on Thursday sought urgent and renewed diplomatic initiative by the Centre to secure a direct two-way access controlled corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in India to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan to enable Sikhs to visit the holy place associated with the life of Guru Nanak Dev, their first guru.

Chandigarh: SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra on Thursday sought urgent and renewed diplomatic initiative by the Centre to secure a direct two-way access controlled corridor from Dera Baba Nanak in India to Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan to enable Sikhs to visit the holy place associated with the life of Guru Nanak Dev, their first guru. Chandumajra, Punjab's ruling party MP, welcomed the efforts of Punjab-based Society for Promotion of Peace (SPP) and National Press Club (NPC), Pakistan, in this regard.
He sought prompt resolution of this emotive issue to enable millions of devotees from India and abroad to pay obeisance at the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara, which is one of the most revered places of Sikhs, situated just three kilometres from the international border on the Pakistan side. Chandumajra impressed upon the union Ministry of External Affairs to take up the issue with federal authorities in Pakistan.
Shant given Mehal Kalan's charge
Barnala: Former MLA Ajit Singh Shant, who had joined Shiromani Akali Dal from Congress in 2013, has been appointed as constituency in-charge of Mehal Kalan (reserve) assembly segment by the party president Sukhbir Singh Badal. Shant had won as an independent candidate from Nihal Singh Wala assembly segment in 2007. He joined the Congress and contested in the 2012 assembly polls from Nihal Singh Wala where he lost by a narrow margin to Akali nominee Rajwinder Kaur. Shant replaces Gobind Singh Kanjhla as the Akali Dal's constituency in-charge from Mehal Kalan in Barnala district.
Mansa MC chief faces no-trust move
Mansa: In a blow to Mansa municipal council president Balwinder Singh Kaka of Shiromani Akali Dal, 21 councillors of the 27-member municipal council filed a notice with the authorities for no-confidence motion against him on Thursday. The councillors claimed that the president has lost trust and he should prove his majority within 14 days. Out of the 21 councillors who have raised a banner of revolt against the president, 13 belong to Akali Dal. The councillors accused him of not taking members into confidence while chalking out development works. Kaka was elected president on March 9, 2015. Three days ago councillors Gurmail Singh and Geeta Rani were elected as senior VP and VP of the municipal council and they too have signed notice for no-trust move.
