SAD to sue Jakhar for libel: MP

JALANDHAR: MP Prem Singh Chandumajra today said that the SAD would file a defamation suit against senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar for bringing a bad name to state by penning the script of an imaginative scam worth Rs 20,000 crore on account of misappropriation of foodgrains.

MP Prem Singh Chandumajra today said that the SAD would file a defamation suit against senior Congress leader Sunil Jakhar for bringing a bad name to state by penning the script of an imaginative scam worth Rs 20,000 crore on account of misappropriation of foodgrains.

Interacting with the media at Nawanshahr today, he said that the issuance of Cash Credit Limit (CCL) by the RBI had vindicated the stand of SAD-BJP alliance that there was no misappropriation of a single grain in the state.

He slammed the former CLP leader for “indulging in cheap politics over this sensitive issue. Had there been any embezzlement, the RBI would not have issued the CCL to the state,” he said.

“In their mad race to emerge taller than their rivals within the party, the Congress leaders were indulging in mudslinging, thereby misleading the people. The gimmick of Jakhar to get a FIR registered was just to score brownie points before the media,” he added. However, as a true custodian of Punjab and Punjabis, the SAD would not be a mute spectator to such gimmicks and would file a defamation suit against the Jakhar,” he said.

On his part, Jakhar replied in the same tone and tenor. “Instead of being sensitive to their own reputation, I wish that the SAD leaders had been more sensitive over the plight of the farmers. If they want to sue me, I also expect them to sue RBI governor Raghuram Rajan and the CAG authorities for exposing the issue.

The Akalis should also sue Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and the BJP at the centre for withholding the CCL and making the farmers suffer,” he added.
