Batsman smashes ump's head
An engineering student who was umpiring a cricket game was left hospitalised after being struck on the head by a cricket stump. 18-year-old Anooj Mathew was taken to hospital with a fractured skull and internal bleeding.
A few youths were playing cricket at the Munnar Engineering College, when Anooj who was referee-ing the affair, decided that a shot had gone for four.
Incensed, the 19-year old who struck the shot claimed that it had in fact gone over the rope for six and eventually started brawling with the umpire.
On his way home from the match, Anooj was struck on the head by the same batsman with a stump.
The police have arrested the assailant and charged him with attempt to murder, while doctors stated that Anooj was out of danger.
