Congress slams Vadodara civic body for overspending on water pipeline
Vadodara: Former leader of opposition in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Congress councillor Chirag Zaveri has come down heavily on the civic body’s standing committee and claimed that the VMC will be spending more on a pipeline project.
Zaveri has stated that a proposal for laying a pipeline from the western parts that have a surplus water supply to the southern parts where there is a deficit was brought before the committee.
The lowest bidder for the contract for the pipeline had quoted a rate that was 25.05 per cent below the estimates. The committee passed a resolution that the contractor should be given the work at a rate that was 27 per cent lower than the estimates, Zaveri said.
But the contractor denied doing the work at this rate and the civic body had to invite fresh bids. Zaveri claimed that as per his information the lowest bidder now had quoted a rate that was 17 per cent below the estimates. This, he said, would imply that the civic body would be spending more on the project as compared to the original bids that it had received. He said that the extra amount should be recovered from the members of the panel.
