VARANASI: The Azamgarh district, which is parliamentary constituency of SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, is the top performer in the state in implementation of
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY), one of the key projects of the Narendra Modi government. By opening of over eight lank accounts the Azamgarh also figured is the top seven districts of the country that performed outstandingly in implementation of PMJDY.
However, the district magistrate Suhas LY could not attend the function of Civil Services Day on Thursday in New Delhi, where PM honoured civil servants for excellence in implementing government's key projects on the occasion.
“Although I received permission to attend the Civil Services Day function, but I could not go to New Delhi as I am also in charge of the divisional commissioner,” Suhas told to TOI over phone on Thursday. “We are quite satisfied with our hard work that the district figured among top seven achievers in PMJDY in the country,” said the DM adding that the other six districts shortlisted in the final found included Nagaon, West Tripura, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Jaipur and North 24 Pargana.
In the first round of selection 20 districts including three from UP –Azamgarh, Moradabad and Jaunpur were selected in the category of PMJDY, he said adding that in the final round only seven districts were selected in three categories –North east hill region, Union Terrotories, and Others. Among them three districts (one from each category) –Nagaon, Chandigarh and North 24 Pargana got the opportunity to share the stage. “We are happy that we figure in top seven districts for outstanding performance,” he said adding that the district received the award for its performance.
With the opening of over eight lank accounts the Azamgarh topped in UP. According to the DM, about 2.5 lakh people in the district were benefited with the life insurance scheme under PMJDY, while about 3.5 lakh RuPay cards were distributed to the beneficiaries. Besides, 10,000 people were also benefited with the loans granted for various trades under PMJDY. “It was the hard work of team that brought laurel to the district,” he said.
The PMJDY is a nationwide scheme launched in August 2014 with an objective to ensure financial access to everyone who was not able to get benefits of many other finance related government schemes. These financial services include Banking/ Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension to all the citizens in easy and affordable mode.
