State to file SLP in 15 Yeddyurappa cases

April 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BANGALORE:

The government will file a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court order to quash 15 cases of corruption against BJP leader B.S. Yeddyurappa.

The announcement, coming days after Mr. Yeddyurappa assumed charge as Karnataka BJP president, has created ripples in political circles. While the BJP described it as “vendetta politics” by the Congress, the government defended the decision, saying it was recommended by the Lokayukta and an order on this was issued on February 24.

The BJP high command appointed Mr. Yeddyurappa as the State BJP chief after he got relief from the High Court in January this year, when it quashed proceedings against him in relation to 15 FIRs registered by the Lokayukta over denotification of land in alleged violation of rules.
