No shades for MNREGS workers

April 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

Noting that many MNREGS workers were being compelled to walk distances in search for shade for a break, activists have written a letter to Commissioner Panchayat Raj and Rural Development for action.

In the letter to Commissioner PR & RD former member of Society for Social Audit PS Ajay Kumar and MNREGA researcher Chakradhar Buddha have pointed out that according to the NREGA website out of the 3,42,579 registered SSS Groups only 1,44,673 SSS groups have received shade facility, some 87000 shades are lying with officials for distribution.

This means that around 40 lakh workers across the state are denied shade in violation of the provisions in the Act.
