Tanaaz Irani: I am doing comedy after a long time

Actress Tanaaz Irani talks about her latest telly outing, why she loves doing comedies and more in a quick chat with Ahmedabad Times.
Actress Tanaaz Irani, who has done a number of memorable roles in Bollywood and on television, is back in an interesting avatar on the small screen. Tanaaz will be seen playing the role of Resham chachi in Jamai Raja. What’s interesting is that while actors getting replaced is pretty common in the TV industry, Tanaaz is replacing her real-life sister-in-law Delnaaz Irani for this role.

Tanaaz tells us, “Initially, it felt a bit weird and I asked Delnaaz, who couldn’t continue due to time constraints, before taking up the show. She was very cool with it and while the character is already very popular, I will add my own touches to it. I am doing comedy in a mainstream show after a very long time and I am very excited about it.”
Tanaaz, who has done a variety of roles, adds, “Comedy is one of the toughest genres. Doing a stand-up comedy show and doing comedy in a proper show are very different things. In case of the latter, while providing comic relief, you have to be very careful not to go overboard, as that can have an adverse effect on the show. These days, one has to be careful before taking up any roles. I scrutinize how much it is related to the main story before saying ‘yes’. I am enjoying this phase of my career and I want to play a detective or cop next. It would be fun to solve mysteries in reel life!”

Tanaaz, who has two kids (Zeus and Zara) with her actor-husband Bakhtiyar Irani (she has a daughter named Zianne from her first marriage), says that her children closely follow her shows/films. She adds, “For Zeus and Zara, Badi Door Se Aaye Hai remains one of their favorite shows because both Bakhtiyar and I have been a part of that show.”
