Hamburger Rieger to increase containerboard capacity in Germany

20 April 2016

Hamburger Rieger will increase the capacity of its plant in Gelsenkirchen, Germany by 70,000 t to 250,000 t.

Although the company mainly focuses on white testliner, the increase is said to raise the mill's capacity for both white and brown testliner. The necessary work will be carried out in October.

Furthermore, Hamburger Containerboard has delayed its decision on where the new paper machine for recycled containerboard will be located. At the beginning of the year, the company announced that two sites were under consideration for the new 450,000 t machine: Spremberg, Germany, and Dentas, Turkey. Now the company said it was also considering the possibility to build paper machines at both sites in the course of the next seven years.
