Water crisis has badly hit midday meals in several schools of Garhwa district. The DW&S department report says, there are 299 schools across the district where the hand pumps are lying defunct for months forcing school children to bring water bottles from their homes.

Garhwa: Water crisis has badly hit midday meals in several schools of Garhwa district. The DW&S department report says, there are 299 schools across the district where the hand pumps are lying defunct for months forcing school children to bring water bottles from their homes. The midday meal at upgraded middle school Kupa in Kharondhi block of the district which has been stopped for the last one month, has a lone hand pump which is defunct.
There are 417 students enrolled in this school who are studying without midday meal.
The midday meal service has been stopped due to lack of drinking water for the last fortnight in Pipra Kalan middle school which is at a distance of barely 300 m from the district headquarters.tnn The same situation prevails in Paraswan middle school of Ramna block of the district where children are forced to bring water bottles from their homes for cooking midday meal, said the cooks Vimla Devi and Manmati Devi.
PHED executive engineer Radhe Shyam Ravi said the defunct hand pumps would soon be repaired and made functional as the repair works are going on war footing. "School children will not be deprived of their midday meal", added Ravi.
