Mary M'Mukindia, who was at the centre of BAT bribery allegations has resigned from the board of the flour miller, Unga Group.

M'Mukindia was implicated in the alleged bribe amounting to £50,000 (Sh7.18 million) allegedly channelled to Martha Karua for her unsuccessful presidential bid in 2013.

She was Karua's key adviser during her presidential campaigns and fund-raising initiatives.

In a brief statement to investors on Monday, Unga Group chair Isabella Ochola-Wilson said M'Mukindia left the position on Friday, which she has held since February 2013.

The board takes this opportunity to thank her for her valuable contribution and wish her well in her future endeavours,” Ochola-Wilson said.

Unga Group's profit for six months through last December dropped by 20.63 per cent to Sh327.19 million, pushed down by a one-off gain from a sale of 51 per cent stake in packaging materials firm, Bullpak, to UK's Nampak Holdings in September 2014.
