UK salve for Puttingal children

Kochi: A London-based organisation of South Indians has come forward to bear the educational expenses of children of the dead and seriously injured victims of the Puttingal temple cracker tragedy. Assistance will be provided to those who study up to Class X, apart from meeting their treatment expenses.

The office-bearers of the organization ‘London Aikyavedi’ having over 1,000 members from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala also said here that 10 wards surrounding the temple will be selected to implement the project.

Chairman M. Mahesh Kumar and president Jayaprakash Panicker of London Aikyavedi based at South Croydon, Surrey said that the magnitude of the tragedy had struck the hearts of even those residing outside the country which prompted them to come to their aid.

They said several persons from South India were becoming victims of job and education frauds in England. To prevent such happenings, the organisation had started a helpline. If an SMS is sent to phone number 00447809111241 giving the details of the firm where job is sought and also the nature of the job, the correct facts will be given back within 24 hours.

For the total uplift of the poor children in the state, a total of Rs 5 crore would be spent by the organization as part of its third anniversary which will be celebrated at South Croydon on May 14, they said.
