A police constable was injured after locals attacked a group of policemen that had gone to arrest a robbery accused from Yakutpura on Monday night.

Vadodara: A police constable was injured after locals attacked a group of policemen that had gone to arrest a robbery accused from Yakutpura on Monday night. Constable Azad Raghunath along with other cops had gone to arrest Ashfak Sheikh who was booked for robbery on April 14.
According to police, Ashfak is a member of the notorious 'bicchoo gang' known for extortion, threatening and assault.
About 40 women and five men had attacked the cops when they went to arrest Shiekh.
"We had nabbed Sheikh but the mob attacked us. One of them pulled Sheikh and assaulted Azad. We have identified Sheikh and four others and have booked them for rioting," said city police inspector M B Nakum. The four others have been identified as Sofiya, Taahid, Mumtaz Pathan, Zakir Sheikh all residents of Yakutpura.
Nakum added that Ashfak took advantage of the commotion and fled from the spot.
On April 14, Afzal Pathan, a resident of Ajabdi Mill locality, filed a complaint of assault and robbery at the city police station accusing Ashfak Sheikh, Irshad Saiyed, Shahrukh Pathan and Irfan of attacking him and his brother the previous night. The accused later fled with Rs12,000 cash from his food cart.
