In a move that has made 6.4 lakh students heave a sigh of relief, pre-university lecturers on Tuesday decided to end their fortnight-long boycott of evaluation and report for duty on Wednesday.
With this, the State government is now confident of completing the evaluation process by the month-end and announcing the results in the first or second week of May. The department is likely to continue utilising the services of private college lecturers who have reported for evaluation duty.
Thimmiah Purle, president of the Karnataka State PU Lecturers’ Association, who announced the decision to call off the protest on Tuesday, however, appealed to the lecturers to return the one increment that the State government has offered them.
The decision was taken after Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education Kimmane Ratnakar met them. “We do not want to beg or compromise. We will continue to press for our demand,” Mr. Purle said.
