April 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - CHENNAI:

Opposition from local partymen has forced the DMK to change its candidate for the Virudhachalam constituency replacing Thanga. Anandan with Govindasamy alias Pavadai Govindsamy.

The party leadership has so for changed candidates in four constituencies for the May 16 polls.

Local partymen opposed the candidature of Mr. Thanga. Anandan alleging that former Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam, who is related to him, was instrumental in getting him the ticket.

Earlier, the party fielded N. Rajkumar in the place of S. Bhavani in Arakkonam (Reserved) constituency.

In Orathanadu, S.S. Rajkumar, younger brother of former Union Minister S.S. Palanimanickam was replaced as he was keen on contesting only in Thanjavur constituency.

In the Sholavandan (Reserved) constituency, Sripriya Thenmozhi was replaced by C. Bhavani as she could not be relieved from government service.

The DMK entered the fray in Ulundurpet after Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK), an ally, opted out of the race. DMDK leader Vijayakant is also contesting in the constituency.

Locals allege Thanga. Anandan got the seat because of ex-Minister, a relative
