Former NHL enforcer Sean Avery will play a Watertown cop in Patriots Day
Bruins fans may not be happy with this casting choice.
Sean Avery was widely regarded known as one of the most hated players in the NHL during his 11-year career in the league. Now, he’ll be playing one of the good guys on the big screen.
Avery will be playing a Watertown police officer in Patriots Day, which is filming scenes in Framingham Tuesday.
Avery announced the news by posting a photo of himself wearing a Watertown Police Department uniform to Instagram, with the caption “#ironic.”

Avery is joining an extensive cast list, including Wahlberg, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, J.K. Simmons, Michelle Monaghan, and Vincent Curatola, in the film.
Will Bruins fans buy a noted NHL villain — who once took a cheap shot to the head of Bruins goalie Tim Thomas — as a Watertown cop? Only time will tell.
