Madeleine McCann’s Parents Defeated By Detective Who Accused Them Of Covering Up Tot’s Death

The search for Madeleine McCann may be going stale, but the ongoing battles between the missing child’s parents and a Portuguese former detective is getting a lot of attention. That’s because Goncalo Amaral has defeated Kate and Gerry McCann in court after they initially sued him for libel. The tables have turned, and the former detective has reportedly won his appeal against the missing girl’s mom and dad. The Daily Mail reports that Amaral posted the judgement, proving his courtroom victory, which has immediately attracted attention from all over the world.

Kate and Gerry McCann sued Goncalo Amaral for libel after he wrote the book Truth of the Lie, in which he directly accused them of playing a role in the disappearance of little Maddie. In the book, Amaral alleges that Kate and Gerry were negligent for leaving the then 3-year-old child alone with two infants while they enjoyed dinner and drinks with friends. He alleged in the book, that Madeleine McCann died at some point during the hours that she was left alone by her mom and dad. Instead of seeking help for the child immediately, Amaral wrote that Kate and Gerry covered up her death. Goncalo Amaral reportedly believes that the McCanns faked their daughter’s abduction.

As for evidence to back up the former detective’s claims? The initial investigation by Portuguese officials returned evidence that something may have happened in the rental apartment shared by the McCann family. What’s more, cadaver and blood dogs detected evidence that was quite damning against Kate and Gerry. Furthermore, Kate refused to answer at least 48 questions by investigators during an interrogation, acknowledging that her refusal was hindering the search for her missing toddler. All of the evidence and other circumstances, combined, ultimately led to Kate and Gerry McCann being declared suspects in Madeleine’s disappearance.

The Mirror reports that Kate and Gerry are “seething” at the news that they have been defeated by Goncalo Amaral. He had originally been ordered to pay the couple hundreds of thousands of dollars, which they intended to use to fund the search for Madeleine. However, the judge presiding over the former detective’s appeal has found that the original judge in the libel suit overstepped “the limits of Amaral’s freedom of expression.” In other words, the judge who was in favor of Kate and Gerry McCann, in the first place, violated Amaral’s freedom of speech. The judge who just ruled in favor of Goncalo Amaral declared that the contents of Truth of the Lie were not libelous, but the opinions of the former detective.

While the parents of Madeleine McCann are outraged at the latest updates from Amaral, so are their followers. Sentiment being expressed on social media is a mixed bag of emotions. Numerous people are in support of Goncalo Amaral’s victory against the doctors McCann, but those who are in support of the parents are furious.

Do you agree with the judge who sided with Goncalo Amaral, or do you think the book Truth of the Lie was libelous against the missing child’s parents?
