Malabar Hill, Kurla, Malad to be worst areas in next 3 yrs

The Praja Foundation said the projection about the worst-hit areas had been made on grounds of the analysis of the complaints received from 2008 to 2015.

Apart from these wards, Kandivali (R/S), Bhandup (S), Bandra, Khar, Santa Cruz (H/W), Govandi (M/E) and Kalbadevi (C) have been added to the list.

In terms of water contamination complaints and diarrhoea cases, the worst-affected wards would be Andheri West (K/W), Worli (G/S) and Malabar Hill area (D) in next three years.

About pest control complaints and dengue/malaria deaths, Bhandup (S), Ghatkopar (N) and Dongri (B) wards would be worst affected in next three years. The projection has been made on the basis of analysis of the data from 2011 to 2015.

“The projections have been made so that the civic administration can gear up and work on the issues to improve these services in the respective wards. Though citizens services should be improved in all wards, the civic body can identify these wards to improve specific
services. The BMC has enough funds and manpower which need to be utilised effectively,” said Milind Mhaske, Project Director at Praja Foundation.

Nitai Mehta, Founder and Managing Trustee of Praja Foundation said there is a need to work on the issue with priority to improve services.

“The massive Deonar fire incident directly leads to questions on the sorry state of the civic services in the city. Why does Mumbai still not have a waste-segregation system in place? Why do incidents like Deonar happen? It shows that the BMC has all the resources but lack proactive administration,” said Mehta.
