Lucknow: The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on Tuesday ordered removal of two officers and stopped the construction work of the Alambagh Metro station till a safety audit of the site was over.
Three persons were injured on Sunday when a pier-arm (flattened surface over a pillar) collapsed at the under-construction station. This was the second accident at the Metro site in 15 days.
The orders to remove an engineer and a safety in charge were issued by LMRC managing director Kumar Keshav.

Keshav inspected the under-construction accident site after arrival from France, where he had gone to approve Metro coach design.
Kumar issued directions to withhold work till a complete safety audit of the site is complete and all norms of safety are met. Kumar claimed that orders to remove officials under whose supervision the work at Alambagh station was in progress will send a strong message to the whole team that safety during construction is not to be compromised at any cost.
Kumar was escorted by officials of LMRC and L&T, which has the contract of the project. A safety audit, said LMRC officials, is in progress under the supervision of an LMRC safety team with safety experts of General Consultants and L&T engineers. L&T officials explained to the MD that precautionary measures were being taken after the accident. Keshav also visited KGMU to meet victim Sohanlal, a labourer, who was injured in the accident and assured all necessary medical and monetary help.

The accident had taken place at a site which was a part of the 8.5km priority stretch of the North-South corridor of the Metro to made operational by January next year. LMRC has already constituted a committee to probe reasons which led to the accident. It will submit a report in the first week of May.
In the afternoon, a meeting was also held by the MD with L&T officials and an LMRC team to review the detailed project methodology of construction along with the safety norms and checks to be followed during Metro construction.
