When the Samajwadi Party won the 2012 UP Assembly elections, Mulayam Singh Yadav had clearly stated that the credit to the win went to the Muslims of the state who voted en masse for the party. It was a hope that the Samajwadi Party thinks about the welfare of the Muslims and their situation will improve under its rule.

However, with the entry of firebrand BJP leader Kundanika Sharma into the Samwajwadi Party, the Muslims have decided to look elsewhere for their saviour in the 2017 elections.

A prominent Muslim organization of Agra, the Jamitul Quresh has denounced the Samajwadi Party and its leader Mulayam Singh Yadav for siding with the 'enemies of Muslims' for his political gain, urging the Muslim community to seek an alternative to the Samajwadi Party in the 2017 UP Assembly elections.

Talking to India Today, Mohd Sharif Qureshi, President of Jamitul Quresh said that the Samajwadi Party has repeatedly sided with the people who have vowed to destroy the Muslims, over the years. First, the Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav hugged and welcomed the 'mosque-demolisher' Kalyaqn Singh who has publicly accepted that he got the Babri Mosque demolished. Then the party sent Sakshi Maharaj to Rajya Sabha, who is known for his anti-Muslim agenda.

Qureshi said that earlier, Arun Mahore murder case created panic among the Muslim community, when BJP leader Kundanika Sharma called for a collective massacre of Muslims in retribution of Mahore's murder. The same Kundanika Sharma is now a candidate of the Samajwadi Party in the coming Assembly elections. This shows the duplicity of the Smajwadi Party, which on one hand vows to protect the interests of the Muslims and on the other hand, sides with their enemies.

Qureshi said that there is a difference between what the Samajwadi Party says and what it does and the Muslims have now understood this. This time, the Muslims will choose their own saviour instead of going with the fake assurances. In future, he said, the Muslims will only vote for the party that raises the voice of this community at the highest levels of power and not for the Samajwadi Party which is nothing except a bunch of sweet-talking politicians who merely seek their own political advancement by stepping on the shoulders of the Muslims.
