This is a Spanish fairytale. More precisely, a fairytale set in Andalusia. A sensuous woman dressed in ruffles, flounces and fringes tells a story of passion and attraction through the flamenco.

Fashion gets inspired by this theatrical and scenic dance accompanied by the castañuelas, the hand-clapping to follow the elegant movements of the dancers to the beat of the bulerías.

We have already felt the Spanish warmth in Spring Summer 2015 at Dolce & Gabbana who sent down the catwalk a very special “corps de ballet”: models wore a white shirt and embroidered hot pants. In 2015, Madonna donned a Spanish-style bodice surrounded by a ‘herd’ of bulls-dancers for the album Rebel Heart. The bullfighter tradition turned right away into a fashionable paso doble.

For Spring Summer 2016 designers propose a sensuous femininity, mixing typical elements of the flamenco with refined couture details.

See the gypsy style dresses by Ralph Lauren, Salvatore Ferragamo and Gucci, that open up in kaleidoscopic he multicolor corollas (that recall Yves Saint Laurent in 1980); or the skirts embellished with ruffles and flounces that recreate 3D roses, Balmain and Blugirl, and at Erdem and Alexander McQueen the Spanish inspiration is even more visible in the short bullfighter jackets.

Lace at Rodarte and Chloé, flounces at Sonia Rykiel and the skirt with train à la “bata de cola” seen at Marques Almeida, evoke Marlene Dietrich in The Devil is a Woman, a fascinating and cynical femme fatale clad in flamenco clothes.

And Andalusia triumphs at Oscar de la Renta, thanks to Peter Copping that pays homage to the years the late designer spent in Spain in his youth, with sartorial precious lace and ruffles. And will full volumes enhanced by of carnation red teamed with deep black.

With a more minimalist and contemporary approach, Proenza Schouler alternate red and black with pure white. A Latino, flirty and caliente mood with laces, cutouts, flounces that expose the arms and the shoulders.
