Former Bumula MP Bifwoli Wakoli has urged presidential hopefuls from Western region to unite.

Mr Wakoli said without unity, the Luhya community's hopes of producing a president would remain a mirage.

Speaking at a local vernacular radio station, Wakoli said Luhya unity was the only way to go if the community expected to send one of their own to State House.

He said for the region to make an impact in politics, area leaders should form one formidable political force.

"The infighting among the Luhya presidential hopefuls is our undoing. We will continue being ruled until we realise that unity is the way to go. At the moment we are divided, no Maragoli or Bukusu will clinch the presidency until we unite and speak in one language," he said.

The former Lands assistant minister said infighting between Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula and his Amani National Congress counterpart Musalia Mudavadi was unhealthy.

"Let's produce one presidential candidate, then offer him enough support and he will have enough bargaining power," said Wakoli.
