SSB seizes 3000kg cannabis, 6 held

In a major success, the sleuths of 61 Battalion of SSB have recently seized at least 3,000kg of cannabis and arrested six persons in an operation at Boha near Bhairabkunda in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area.

Guwahati: In a major success, the sleuths of 61 Battalion of SSB have recently seized at least 3,000kg of cannabis and arrested six persons in an operation at Boha near Bhairabkunda in the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border area.
Bhairabkunda, a tourist spot in Assam's Udalguri district, is considered as a transit point for smugglers because of its strategic position near the international border with Bhutan.

Acting on a tip off regarding movement of over 30 smugglers from the state in the area, the SSB troops launched an operation. "During the operation, a total of 3,000 kg of cannabis were seized and six persons were arrested," an SSB spokesperson said.
Those arrested have been identified as Begon Gour, Lobu Gour, Bullen Gour, Ram Gour Akup Basumatary and Badan Basumatary of Udalguri district.
"The total value of the seizure is Rs 2.10crore. The accused were handed over to Arunachal Pradesh police," a source said. They were booked under NDPS Act.
