ISLAMABAD - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) yesterday gave a go-ahead to file three corruption references against politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen.
The Executive Board Meeting of NAB authorised to file three corruption references. The first reference was decided to be filed against Asfand Yar Kakar, ex-Minister for Food of Baluchistan and Ali Bakhsh Baloch, ex-Secretary, Food, Baluchistan, and others in case of Rs. 1525.0122 million embezzlement in government wheat from Provincial Reserve Centre Sariab, Baluchistan.
The second reference was decided to be filed against Sheikh Muhammad Afzal, Chief Executive/Director M/S Harris Steel Industry Pvt Ltd, Lahore and others. In this case, the accused persons were alleged for obtaining illegal pecuniary benefits through corrupt, dishonest and illegal means and thereby caused corresponding loss to the NIB Bank Ltd. The third and last corruption reference was approved to be filed against Prof. Syed Khawaja Alqama, ex-Vice Chancellor of Bahauddin Zikria University Multan, Malik Munir Hussain, ex-Registrar of the university and others. Prof. Alqama, ex-Vice Chancellor of BZU, ex-Registrar of BZU Multan and others in connivance with each other illegally established BZU Sub Campus at Lahore by misusing their authority and illegally obtained benefits to the tune of Rs. 960 million in this case.
The EBM authorized the complaint verification against Member National Assembly from Gujranwala of ruling party Azhar Qayum Nahra, and his brother ex-MNA Mudassir Qayum Nahra and others. Both accused persons were alleged for corruption and have amassed huge assets beyond their known sources of income.
The EBM also authorized two inquiries. The first inquiry was authorized against Javed Ahmed Siddiqui, ex MPA (PP-197) Multan and others in case of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
The second inquiry was authorized against officials of Ministry of Food Security and Research for causing a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The EBM closed two inquiries including the inquiry against officials of Ministry of Railways and others regarding procurement of 69 locomotives and second inquiry against officers of M/o Railways and others regarding procurement of 1300 wagons others due to lack of incriminating evidence.
