Neighbourhood body wants Mylapore civic issues solved

April 19, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Chennai:

Speeding up of Chennai Metrowater work on P.S. Sivaswamy Salai, immediate removal of construction waste and abandoned cars at the entrance of the MRTS station in Mandaveli and converting the existing one-way traffic on the Luz Church-Royapettah Road into two-way are some of the civic issues highlighted at the first meeting of the Mylapore chapter of Araporr Iyakkam, a forum for residents to highlight civic issues in the neighbourhood, at the Nageswara Rao park on Sunday. Jayaram Venketasan, convenor, Araporr Iyakkam, said that the Mylapore chapter was formed a week ago to highlight civic issues in the neighbourhood. More importantly, he said the issues would be taken up with the authorities to find solutions.

Petitions would also be filed by residents with the respective department. For example, participants at the meeting urged Chennai Metrowater to speed up its work on P.S. Sivaswamy Salai in Mylapore.

Also, residents at the meeting demanded that the Chennai Corporation and Southern Railway clear the construction waste and abandoned cars at the entrance of the MRTS station in Mandaveli. “Last week, the chapter organised ‘Know Your Rights’ where topics like RTI, grievance redressal mechanisms and traffic rules were discussed,” he said.
