MACLEAY Valley motorists are set to benefit from Federal Government funding to fix major Black Spots in the area with works nearing completion. Under the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program, $321,150 has been allocated to upgrade a 1.6km section of Armidale Kempsey Rd from north of Corangula Rd to east of Mines Rd at Corangula to mark road edge lines, install shoulders and curve alignment markers and mark a barrier line.

$165,000 has also been allocated for a section of Lighthouse Rd east of Arakoon Rd at South West Rocks to install curve alignment markers, improve sealed shoulders, mark barrier lines, upgrade seal to high level non-skid surface and mark road edge lines.
Other areas on the Mid North Coast to receive upgrades under the package include Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. “We know that there is a lot of pressure on North Coast local councils to fund repairs on their local roads networks,” Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, said.
“Federal Government Black Spot funding aims to maximise the level of safety for road users at these locations, without financially impacting councils further. The Black Spot Program has been extremely effective in reducing accidents and fatalities, often where minor road improvements can lead to a much greater level of safety.”
The latest Black Spot funds were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and would be delivered during the course of 2016-17. In the last round of funding, Kempsey Shire Council received $1.312 million to address Black Spots.
