Two youths threw paver block at a cop on duty in Sahar
MUMBAI: A police constable suffered minor injury when a paver block hit his right elbow during nakabandi below the Airport Metro station bridge on Monday. The incident at aroubd 2.20pm when Harishchandra Shinde (46) attached with the Sahar police station along with few cops was checking vehicles, two youths (in the age group between 20-25 years) reached the spot and threw the paver block at Shinde.
Other cop who witnessed the incident was unable to identify the two youths because of no lights at the spot.
"The youths threw the paver block from a distance of at least 20-25 feet. Before the cops could chase they sped away in black pulsar bike. Probe is on to find out whether the youths attacked Shinde because they may have been fined in the past for any traffic offence," said Sahar police senior inspector BT Mukhedkar.
He said nakabandi is placed daily and actions are taken against those found drunk or riding without helmet. "The spot where the incident occurred does not have closed circuit televison (CCTV) camera. A case under the Indian Penal Code sections for not allowing a public servant to perform duty, hurt, endangering life and common intention has been filed" he said.
Police have recovered the paver block used in the crime and trying to locate the biker. Cops has failed to note down the vehicle number.
