Remand prisoner dies in Nagercoil jail

A 37-year-old remand prisoner was found dead inside his cell in Nagercoil sub-jail in the wee hours of Sunday. Police said Justin, son of Wilson from Shanmugarayapuram in Madhavaram in Kanyakumari district, was arrested four days ago for threatening to murder a woman.

Madurai: A 37-year-old remand prisoner was found dead inside his cell in Nagercoil sub-jail in the wee hours of Sunday. Police said Justin, son of Wilson from Shanmugarayapuram in Madhavaram in Kanyakumari district, was arrested four days ago for threatening to murder a woman. Justin wielded a knife and threatened Malliga of Shanmugarayapuram over a dispute.

Based on a complaint from Malliga, a case was registered against Justin. He was arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate. He was remanded for 15 days in judicial custody.
Police said he was lodged in a cell. On Sunday morning, the prison authorities found Justin lying on the floor. He was rushed to a government hospital, where doctors declared that he was brought dead. Based on a complaint from the prison authorities, a case was registered with Nesamani Nagar police station and probe was being conducted. Police said the case was registered under section of 176 of the CrPc. tnn
