Leduc RCMP deployed a spike belt on the QE2 early Sunday morning in order to bring the driver of stolen truck to a stop.

Police said at about 12:30 a.m. officers received reports of “an erratic driver” in a large industrial truck travelling southbound on the highway.

According to RCMP, the driver failed to stop for officers near 50th Avenue in Leduc and continued to swerve back and forth from the highway to the shoulder.

Police used the spike belt on the QE2 about 30 kilometres south of Leduc where the stolen vehicle came to a stop.

Three men, ages 27, 29, and 31, were arrested and remain in custody.

Police said two industrial trucks were stolen from a Nisku business where extensive damage was noted to the property’s fence – the second vehicle was abandoned close by.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor.

The investigation continues.
