'I stood on the brakes of my auto'
Lucknow: Father of 32-year-old Hitesh Srivastava was heading towards Charbagh from Awadh crossing. The Aminabad resident auto rickshaw driver emerged a lucky survivor. Within seconds Hitesh jumped off the rickshaw before its front portion got damaged by the heavy construction material that fell on it. His account:
I had spotted the girder crashing on the road and I stood on the brake.
Debris fell on the glass pane and on top of the three-wheeler. I fell on the road and crawled next to the green barricades bearing Lucknow Metro logo. More debris kept falling on the stretch. The noise was so scary that for a moment we felt the entire structure would fall. Dust was rising and I was not able to seen anything.
I was shivering with fear and could not stand properly. Locals helped me stand up. I saw a labourer (Sohan Lal) in a pool of blood. He was bleeding profusely. I and my friend Junaid stopped another rickshaw and took him to the hospital.
Both of us had suffered minor bruises. Policemen took me away to Alambagh police station. They did not allow me to leave for next two hours and brought the damaged three-wheeler to the police station. I will have to spend Rs 10,000 on repair.
