: A 35-year-old businessman was shot at and injured by two men on a motorcycle on Mata Sundari Road, near ITO, on Saturday.

The victim, Vinod Gupta, managed to duck the first shot, but was hit in his cheek by the second bullet. Gupta has been to Lok Nayak Hospital where his condition is serious. However, he was able to briefly speak to the police, during which he mentioned a personal rivalry.

Police have also learnt about some criminal cases registered against Mr. Gupta, but are yet to verify them. A resident of Shahdara, Mr. Gupta was returning home on his motorcycle after a business meeting near New Delhi railway station when his two-wheeler was overtaken by two motorcyclists near the Lal Quarter area on Minto Road.

One of them signalled him to stop, but when he did not comply, they opened fire. Locals rushed to Mr. Gupta’s help on hearing the gunshots. The assailants managed to escape.
