LUCKNOW: A large part of Lucknow may face water crisis on Sunday morning because of shutdown of 132Kv Hardoi road sub-station and 132Kv Neebu Park sub-station for maintenance work by transmission unit.
Areas that are likely to face water shortage include Nadan Mahal road, Medical College, Hanuman Setu, Ikka Stand, Residency, Balaghat, Victoria Street, Radhagram, Rajajipuram-2, Malihabad, Dubagga, Azadnagar, Kakori, Rahmankhera etc.

Power cut from 7-9am will hamper untreated water supply from Gaughat pump to Aishbagh waterworks and Second Waterworks (near Hardoi Road). These two reservoirs provide water to more than 12 lakh residents of areas like Lalbagh, Saadatganj, Chowk, Daulatganj, Rajajipuram, Nakhas, Hardoi Road, Aishbagh, etc. Power cut in morning hours may keep water from reaching the two waterworks, affecting supply to all these areas.
Jal Sansthan maintained that since power cut is for only two hours, water supply will be normal in the evening shift. Water works general manager Rajiv Bajpai said, "Gaughat supplies water to half the city. In case it is shut down for 2 hours, morning supply may remain affected-some may get water for a brief duration while others may not get it at all."
King George's Medical University instructed head of electricity department to ensure all power back-up systems remain functional during the time of power cut. Chief medical superintendent Dr S C Tewari said, "All intensive care units, critical care units and wards have a backup system. Even the frequently used machines, especially the X-ray or CT scan can work on power backups. There is no need to worry." Balrampur and Veerangana Avanti Bai Hospitals which also fall in the area have directed for power back up arrangements in patients' interest.
