Complete drinking water projects in district: DC

 Deputy Commissioner Meer Anees Ahmmed has directed officials to complete the pending drinking water projects in the district.

“The Cabinet subcommittee will visit the district shortly to assess the measures taken to tackle drinking water shortage in the district,” he added.

Chairing a meeting here on Saturday, he said that the subcommittee will visit the villages facing acute shortage of water and drought-hit Virajpet taluk.

“The State government has deployed Cabinet subcommittees to four revenue divisions of the States. Accordingly, for the Mysuru division, Higher Education Minister T B Jayachandra, PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, Cooperation Minister H S Mahadevaprasad, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundurao will visit the district to collect information on drought relief works being implemented here,” he explained.

The officer said that borewells should be drilled in case of necessity and open wells should be constructed to supply water.

Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer Charulatha Somal said that the pending works related to drinking water should be completed within a week.

Additional Deputy Commissioner M Sathish Kumar said that Rs 50 lakh has been released to Virajpet taluk to take up drought relief work. “The officials concerned should visit the villages to assess the shortage of drinking water,” he instructed.

He also directed the officials to furnish details on the villages where water is supplied through tankers.

Zilla Panchayat Engineer Shashidhar said that five works related to drinking water have been completed. “Additional 15 works are in progress and 16 works are yet to start,” he informed.
