After getting rid of the congestion caused by the old vegetable market by shifting it outside the city, the MC has decided to construct smart parking along with a facilitation centre at the vacated site.
Officials say the site will be available for normal parking by May, while it will be developed as smart parking later. The parking will be under CCTV surveillance and will later be GPS-enabled, said Sumedha Kataria, MC Commissioner.
Dedicated parking slots with separate entry and exit points will be created for the motorists, asserted Kataria.
Initially, the open space will be made available for parking, but a facilitation centre with Wi-Fi facility and other services will be developed later. The centre will act as a commercial hub with latest facilities in line with the “Digital India” initiative, she says.
The district administration had shifted the old vegetable market on March 31 to the new grain market premises, which has helped ease traffic congestion in the area.
The traders have welcomed the MC move. Rohit Kumar, a shopkeeper, said smart parking will help the business grow in the area.
