Over 1,100 arrested for liquor-related offences

Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar's home district Nalanda tops the list with maximum number of arrests and seizure of IMFL since the government imposed country liquor ban in the state on April 1 and total prohibition on April 5. Of the 1,285 persons arrested so far for liquor related offences, 90 hail from Nalanda district, the highest in the state.
The police control room, which has been operational since April 1 to receive complaints from people regarding manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol, has received 1,231 complaints till April 14 evening.

Sources said action has been taken against 2,470 persons and 1,170 persons have so far been sent to jail in connection with liquor related offences. An official monitoring the functioning of the control room said altogether 1,285 persons, including 90 from Nalanda, have so far been arrested.
The police have seized nearly 1,33,074 litres of IMFL since the enforcement of total prohibition in the state. According to sources in the control room, 12,694 litres of IMFL have been seized in Nalanda district alone.
A dedicated control room was made operational with the helpline number (0612-2215058/2215286) to register complaints regarding illegal sale, manufacture and consumption of liquor.
Several teams of excise and police officials have been conducting raids to ensure total liquor ban in the state. According to data available with the police control room, altogether 19,135 raids have been conducted at different places across the state. The police have destroyed 1,69,568 litres of country liquor and 1,498 quintals of 'mahua' during the same period. It also seized 9,770 litres of spirit from different parts of the state.
ADG (law and order) Alok Raj said the police have intensified vehicle checking and night patrolling across the state to prevent illegal flow of liquor. "We appeal to people to cooperate with the police to make Bihar a liquor free state," he added.
