Rohtas DM orders probe into demolition of 'Yatri Shed'

Rohtas DM orders probe into demolition of 'Yatri Shed'
Sasaram: The demolition of 'Yatri Shed', constructed under the MP local area development scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 15 lakh years back, by the Sasaram Nagar Parishad on Friday has raised eyebrows in the city.
Sasaram Nagar Parishad's executive officer Manish Kumar has justified the shed's demolition at Rauza road, saying it was occupied by vegetable vendors and the site has been selected for the construction of a two-storied rain basera building.
However, Rohtas DM Animesh Kumar Parashar has taken the incident seriously and ordered an inquiry into the matter on Saturday.
Meanwhile, local BJP MP Chedi Paswan, who had recommended construction of the shed from his development funds in 1992, has demanded a high-level inquiry into the demolition. Sources said the local nagar parishad has selected the site for the construction of a rain basera at an estimated cost of Rs 39 lakh. The nagar parishad was in such a hurry to pull down the shed that it did not bother to seek the mandatory no-objection certificate (NOC) from the road construction department (RCD), which owns the land.
"The requirement of NOC is mandatory and we expect everything to be clear in the inquiry," said the DM. "Not only this, the proposed site has been put in main road category by the nagar parishad. The Bihar Municipal Act clearly says that the width of main road in nagar parishad area should be at least 30ft. But after the construction of the proposed rain basera on the plot, the road's width will get narrowed to 14ft only," said a source in the nagar parishad.
