Even as over 75 Indian boats have been caught by the Pakistan Marine Security Agency (PMSA) this year so far, around eight Indian boats with more than 40 fisherman aboard somehow saved themselve from getting caught by PMSA late last evening off Jakhau coast of Kucth district in Gujarat.

The boats were doing fishing in group, as instructed by the Indian security agencies as a precautionary measure, near the International Maritime Border Line (IMBL) off Jakhau coast, National Fish Workers Forum Secretary Manish Lodhari said.

‘Suddenly they heard gun shots from PMSA guards. The boats without losing any time turned back to speed up in the direction where Indian coast guard patrolling teams were expected. The PMSA chased them for a while but later gave up,’ Mr Lodhari said.

He said that the Pak Marines have captured 78 boats and around 470 fishermen this year alone.

On April 14, they tried to capture four Indian boats of which one manged to escape. The Pak Marines caught three boats with 17 fishermen on that day, Mr. Lodhari said.
