Cinema my darling movie review: Making of a 'struggling' act

The film falls flat right from the start, coupled with ordinary making and forgetful performances.

Director: Gaurish Akki

Cast: Vihaan Gowda, Sanjjanaa Galrani, Manojava Galgali, Shashi Deshpande, Shreyas Narasimha, Raju Thalikote, Sampath Kumar, Suchendra Prasad.

The only reason behind a bit of buzz around this movie was Gaurish Akki, a journalist who turned director for this venture. With a fair experience working as a film journalist for quite some time, there was lot riding on his debut directorial 'Cinema my Darling.' However, unfortunately it is neither refreshing nor has anything new to offer. It falls flat right from the start, coupled with ordinary making and forgetful performances.

There have been scores of movies made regarding the harsh realities behind the glitz and glamour of the world of cinema, and the sacrifices and the struggle it demands before someone lucky who finally manages to attain stardom. If some of the similar movies in the past focused through the characters of aspiring directors, some have centered around characters of actor dreaming to become a star one day. What the director does here is to bring in all of such aspiring talents who dream to excel in their respective fields in the film industry - a director, hero, cinematographer and a composer under one 'rented' roof and their journey in achieving their goals.

The biggest let down is the director himself who has utterly failed in showcasing his darling while pinning hopes on a subject which is done to death! Scenes of typical auditions, approaching film producers who demand for a masala movie rather than sensible subjects, humiliations and much more are just a repeat in this one too. A court scene just before the climax and the the mono-acting during an audition in the film played by national award wining actor Sanchari Vijay are the only few notable acts and the rest is just the 'struggle' which is apparently how it also feels while watching it.

Finally when the four manage to do a film of their own taste, they somehow end up behind bars and face the court. Skip this one if you are planning for a struggle free movie experience!
