Karnal: Nari Niketan of Karnal will be taking assistance of NGO Swayam Siddha Society to help inmates lead a healthy life. The women shelter home has been infamous for various reasons, including suicides, running away of inmates and intrusion of men in the past.
The decision was taken in a recent meeting held at Nari Niketan.
The rising health and physiological problems among the inmates forced the administration to seek the help of the NGO.
Karnal deputy commissioner J Ganeshan confirmed the development.
Staff of Nari Niketan would cooperate with Swayam Siddha Society to run the shelter home, said Ganeshan. President of the Society Ranjana Sharma said Nari Niketan in Karnal was the only women shelter home in the state and had approximately 70 to 100 inmates on an average. "The inmates need special attention for their physical and mental being. We have already started working. We held two camps for treatment of skin related diseases and psychological ailments for which specialist doctors were called," she said. tnn
