A series of tornado and thunderstorm warnings were issued for eastern Colorado Friday afternoon and evening as severe storms moved through the area.

The latest tornado warning, in effect until 8:30 p.m. was for central and eastern Baca County, including the towns of Walsh and Stonington.

The National Weather Service earlier issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. in Kiowa, Baca, Bent and Prowers counties.

The first torando warning was issued after a twister touched down south of Eads in Kiowa County at about 2:30 p.m., the National Weather Service reported.

That warning expired at 3:15 p.m. but a new warning was issued for central Cheyenne County until 3:45 p.m.

At around 4:40 p.m., NWS placed southeastern Kit Carson County, including the town of Burlington, under a tornado warning that lasted until 5:15 p.m. Eastern Kit Carson was also under a severe thunderstorm warning that expired at 4:30 p.m.

Kiowa County, where more than 2 inches of rain fell in a short time, was under a flash flood warning that expired at 5 p.m. That warning was extended until 6:30 p.m.Cheyenne County was also under a flash flood warning that lasts until 7 p.m.

Some of the storms were producing wind gusts of up to 60 mph, according to meteorologist Chad Timmestad from the National Weather Service.

Golfball sized hail was reported.
