It's do or die for RMP this time

RMP has fielded Rema hoping that she would win.

KOZHIKODE: A victory in Vadakara is important for the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), founded by CPM rebel T.P. Chandrasekharan in 2009, where K.K. Rema, wife of the martyr, is contesting. JD(U) leader Manayath Chandran is the UDF candidate and T.P. Dasan (CPM) is the LDF candidate.

T.P. Chandrasekharan was murdered by pro-CPM gangsters at Onchiyam near Vadakara on May 4, 2012. The special court on January 23, 2014 had convicted 12 out of the 36 accused in the case, including three CPM leaders. P. Mohanan, one of the accused in the TP murder case, is now at the helm of affairs in the CPM as its district secretary.

N. Venu, the present state secretary of RMP, who contested in 2011 before the murder of Chandrasekharan, had bagged only 10,098 votes against Janata Dal (secular) candidate C.K. Nanu (LDF) who got 46,912 votes. M.K. Premnath (UDF) received 46,065 votes. RMP has fielded Rema hoping that she would win. TP was a favourite of all party workers in Vadakara.

Rema told DC that success was important to the party. “I will try my level best to realize the dreams of Chandrasekharan in politics”, she added. “His dreams about a left-alternative are yet to be realised and the fight against corrupt also should be on,” she said.

However, the CPM leadership says that there has been no emotional wave in the constituency in connection with the murder of Chandrasekharan. CPM district secretary P.Mohanan told DC that RMP was not a force in Vadakara. “There is no doubt about our victory”, he added.

N. Venu told DC that the party was making an all-out effort to ensure the victory of Rema. “There is no doubt about her leadership abilities,” he said. The BJP had won only 6909 votes in the constituency.
