Police said the fire broke out due to electrical short circuit, when the boat mechanic Muruganandham was carrying out electrical works in a newly constructed fishing boat. The fire spread to four other newly constructed fishing boats docked in the boat yard and destroyed them. While Muruganandham sustained burn injuries, three other workers swooned after inhaling the smoke.
