Andhra Cricket Association’s three-day workshop for umpires began at Mangalagiri’s ACA Stadium on Thursday in which 50 umpires enrolled to enhance their knowledge. Both BCCI umpires and scorers will take up classes under the directions of senior umpire Ramakrishna. Mr. Ch. Arun Kumar, ACA joint secretary, on the inaugural day, said that umpiring was an important segment of cricket which demanded good amount of knowledge and concentration. “An umpire should be cautious for his decisions will make or break the careers of cricketers. It will also change the end result of the contest”. Mr. C.R. Mohan, media manager, said that umpiring career was lucrative profession and advised the budding umpires to emulate Mr. S. Venkataraghavan, former Test cricketer and Steve Buckner of Jamaica, who stood in five World Cups finals consecutively.
Mr. K. Ramesh, secretary, Central Zone and Mr. B. Bapuji, ACA’s Logistics Manager also participated.
