A 22-year-old mechanical engineer was killed by a gang of robbers who entered her flat in Saidham housing society in Kalyan on Thursday. The incident took place between 4 and 5 am when the deceased, Priya Daravde, was sleeping in the hall while her brother and sister-in-law were asleep in the bedroom.

According to the Khadakpada police, Priya’s flat was located on the third floor of the building and the hall window did not have any grills. The robbers who are suspected to be of the Chaddi Baniyan Pardhi gang entered the flat by sliding the window which might have been kept open for ventilation.

According to Priya’s neighbour, he saw the robbers flee after executing the robbery and murder.

A senior police officer said, "The robbers locked the bedroom door from outside. Before they could flee with valuables, the commotion must have alerted Priya and made her raise an alarm. After trying to quieten her, they hit her with a heavy weapon.”

He added, "The commotion also alerted her brother and sister-in-law, Vivek and Snehal, and they called Priya on her phone to check. Since she didn’t respond, they thought she was asleep. The neighbour who saw the robbers fleeing shouted and this alerted Vivek who tried opening his bedroom door. He sought help of the neighbours and broke open the flat’s entrance door to find Priya lying in a pool of blood.”

DCP Sanjay Jadhav said "We have formed three police teams and are trying to nab the accused involved. Priya's family is in shock and is yet to record their statements with the police.”
