to execute critical waste management programs~

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power Company, through its 100 per cent subsidiary Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd (CGPL) has always strived hard in the improvement of its communities. CGPL has always been committed towards the improvement of the standard of living for its communities through various initiatives. In line with the commitment, CGPL in partnership with Sahjeevan is implementing a highly ambitious Waste Management Program in and around its vicinity. The objective of this solid waste management program is to strive for maximum waste recovery through sustainable use of biodegradable waste, recovery of waste and aims at minimum waste disposal on to dump yard and landfills.

Through this initiative, the company aims to - Study on current waste disposal status and practices; Capacity building of panchayats of the identified villages, sanitation committee and their stakeholders; Raise the Awareness and changing perceptions; Further collection and segregation of waste; and Linkages with different stakeholders for better and productive usage of generated waste.

Looking at the success of the conceptualization of the program and acceptability of the program among the community, CGPL has implemented the program in the 4 identified villages namely Tunda-Vandh, Motakandagara, Nanabhadiya and Tragadi. In future, further success of the program will lead CGPL and the partner agency for scaling up the program through exposure visit of the people to the models and similar system created in other villages and educating , training of people to replicate the same model in their village. Efforts will be done for ensuring the sustainability of the program through the active involvement of the respective panchayats.

CGPL has also conducted 'Awareness Programme' through street play on the issues of cleanness in and around village, segregation of waste at the source and minimising the plastic uses.

Speaking on the impact and the various initiatives, Mr. K. K. CGPL has over the year worked along with local panchayats and other administrative bodies ensuring a better and cleaner surrounding for the population in its areas of operations. One of the major interventions from CGPL in the areas to improve on the cleanliness was to pass a resolution for construction of segregation centre at Tragadi, Kandagra and Bhadia villages with the respective Panchayats. A selective team along with the trained professionals have been deputed for the construction of the waste segregation centres to ensure a cleaner environment for a better future. Moreover, the CGPL team has in consultation with the Panchayat and the village level committee are going to conduct various programmes to raise awareness on critical issues of cleanness, segregation of waste at the source and minimising the plastic usage.

The street plays were a runaway success with participation from every sphere of the society. The total number of participants in the street plays crossed 100 in every occasion. Moreover during the play, progress of waste management programme was also disclosed.

Apart from the resolution for Waste Segregation Centre and the awareness campaigns, CGPL also undertook impactful activities like placement of dustbins across the locality. This activity will help in collection of the waste in strategic manner to dispose of the same effectively. The Project team is also employed in actively identifying active youths and panchayat members to train them on waste management, which will act as community resource persons after completion of the project.
