Bengaluru: Shivakumaraiah alias Guruji, the suspected kingpin in the II PU chemistry paper leak case, didn't only sell leaked question papers. The 66-year-old suspended school headmaster also came up with model answers for the questions. He provided both to his clientele that included children of middle-level officials from various government departments like PWD and Bescom.
CID sleuths investigating the paper leaks have managed to uncover various facets of the modus operandi adopted by Shivakumaraiah, who is now on the run.
Besides selling leaked question papers to middlemen, Shivakumaraiah is also suspected to have catered to children of government officials by providing them complete packages, including model answers to the leaked questions.
The latest facts came to light with the arrest of three more accused on Wednesday -- KS Ranganath, 50 (junior engineer with PWD and resident of Raja Rajeshwari Nagar), B Anil Kumar, 46 (from Ullala in West Bengaluru and a realtor) and KM Muralidhar, 52 (from Jalahalli; he runs a coaching center named A-3).
Shivakumaraiah allegedly paid Muralidhar Rs 50,000 to jot down the model answers for the chemistry paper. Copies of the leaked question paper and the model answers were distributed to more than 30 students at least 30 hours before the exam. Shivakumaraiah charged at least Rs 15,000 per head.
Accused Muralidhar and Anil Kumar have told interrogators that Shivakumaraiah conducted a six-hour coaching class for 30 students that started on March 19 midnight and ended early March 20 morning, one day before the March 21 exam.
"After making at least 100 photcopies of the answers provided by Muralidhar, Shivakumaraiah came to Anil's house in Ullala, near Nagarbhavi, on the night of March 19. As decided, Shivakumaraiah distributed the answerscripts to more than 30 students who came there. Muralidhar was also present to clarify the doubts of students," sources privy to the investigation said.

"Most of the students were children of PWD engineers, Bescom and BBMP officials. All their doubts on how to answer the question paper were cleared," the source said.
Around 7 am on March 20, Shivakumaraiah and Muralidhar left Anil's residence with the rest of the of answersheets.
Investigators suspect the Ullala batch of students was just one module. Shivakumaraiah provided question paper and model answers to several other modules.
Ranganath, the third person arrested on Wednesday, allegedly purchased the leaked chemistry question paper from Rudrappa, his colleague at PWD.
Rudrappa was part of another of leg of Shivakumaraiah's plans. He got the question paper from his brother-in-law, Obalaraju, then an OSD in minister Sharana Prakash Patil's office. Obalaraju got the question paper from Manjunath, a PT teacher and middleman, who bought the question paper from Shivakumariah.
Obalaraju's son and Rudrappa's daughter were writing the II PUC exam. Manjunath, Obalaraju and Rudrappa were the first persons to be arrested in the case.
Shivakumar is suspected to have accessed the question paper from a treasury outside Bengaluru, in collusion with an unidentified PU education department official. He allegedly sold the leaked question papers to several middlemen like Manjunath.
Ranganath, Anil Kumar, and Muralidhara have been remanded to CID custody for five days. Manjunath, Obalaraju and Rudrappa have been sent to judicial custody.
